Early Life

He wasin Hanover County, Virginia. The revolutionary war was going on during Henry Clay’s childhood. His parents were John Clay and Elizabeth Hudson Clay. His father was a Baptist minister. His father died four years after Henry was born. This was the year the British soldiers raided the area and looted the clay home. ┬áHis father left his wife 18 slaves and 464 acres of land when he died. Henry and his brothers got two slaves each.
